The Batley Bulldogs winners against Dewsbury by 28-18.
Batley Bulldogs ran in 4 tries in the second half to beat arch rivals Dewsbury by 28-18 in a match that was marred by the strong winds.
Playing uphill and against the wind in the first half, the bulldogs found it difficult to make any inroads into the Rams defence and were confined to one try by Shaun Ainscough. Dewsbury however crossed the line twice through Adamson and Potts, but one got the impression that the 12 – 4 scoreline in favour of the Rams was not going to be enough from the point of view of the visitors from over the valley, and so it proved.
It did however take Batley a good ten minutes to get into gear in the second half, but 4 tries in the space of 12 minutes by Brambani, Reittie, Chandler and Squires more or less wrapped things up, the first try coming somewhat against the run of play. A last minute try by Donald Kudangirana for the Rams gave an air of respectability to the scoreline.
All in all it was a successful first outing for the Bulldogs under new coach Matt Diskin, but due to the adverse conditions it will be difficult for him to draw any conclusions out of this match.
