On Sunday we take on the Sheffield Eagles and get another chance to take the points away from a team that has proved nearly impossible to beat over the last few years, at least as far as Batley are concerned. But, under the motto “Dare To Dream”, this could be the one.
Due to Sheffield sharing the Keepmoat Stadium with Doncaster this season, the match will take place as second of a double feature at 4.15 p.m. after Doncaster take on Leigh Centurions in the first match of the day. One may question the wisdom of staging two matches consecutively, obviously some thought has been given to the matter and one might expect an increase in the crowds. But considering the season and the fact that it is still very wet out and about, there is always a question that the pitch may cut up, making the second encounter a war of attrition. A spot of rain is in fact expected for Sunday afternoon.
Batley go into the match missing Craven, who has picked up a knee injury. This may probably mean that Jonny Campbell could drop to Full Back, but apart from that there are no injury worries. Batley will be looking to make amends for failing to cross the try line against Halifax last week, and the ex-Sheffield players in the squad will be motivated, especially Squires, who only made one appearance, and that off the bench, during his time with the Eagles.
In the corresponding feature last year Batley won 28 -18 at the Owlerton Stadium. They will certainly be hoping to emulate this success again.
My tip: Batley to win by the narrowest of margins
