6 - 34 |
Featherstone Rovers took their last chance to reach the middle 8s by beating Batley bulldogs by 34 – 6 in a tussle in which the Bulldogs disappointed bitterly at the Foxes Biscuits stadium this afternoon
It was Featherstone who took the lead early on after a penalty. The resulting kick was true and put Rovers 2-0 up. Bostock added to the Bulldog misery by going over for a converted try after 10 miuntes to make it 8-0. Fev added a penalty goal towards the end of a disappointing first half to go in 10-0 at the break.
With the Bulldogs playing uphill in the second half, they had it all to do, but it was Featherstone again who opened the scoring with a converted try to take the score to 16-0 in favour of the Rovers, before Hardmann crossed again for the Rovers to take the lead to an unassailable 22-0. Further tries were added by Goulding and Channing. Chris Ulugia got a consolation for the Bulldogs to round up a game in which Batley were never, in spite of all the effort, really present.
All in all, a disappointing day at the office. Batley do still have it in their own hands to progress to the middle 8s, but the task has just got that much more difficult. In the next weeks Batley face London at home before travelling to Swinton, two must wins. But to achieve this there must be a massive improvement.
