Batley were unable to spoil the party as Leigh Centurions celebrated their promotion to Super League by beating the Bulldogs by 42-24. In a match which was notable for the respect both teams obviously have for each other, Batley formed a guard of honour for the Leigh team as they entered the pitch. But the Bulldogs soon showed that they were in no mood to give away any further presents as they put up a spirited display to make it a memorable occasion.
And it was the Bulldogs who took the lead with a try from Dave Scott, which was converted by Walker. At 12 a piece, after Leak’s try levelled the scores, the game was still in the balance. Two tries however gave the Centurions the advantage at half time.
In the second half the Bulldogs endeavoured to stay in the game with further tries from Keegan Hirst and Wayne Reittie, but Leigh were determined to celebrate the occasion in style, as they ran in further tries thourgh Burns, Tonga and Weston to win the match.
