Brambani Drop Goal Secures Next Round

Result WHV

Matchday one after the announcement that John Kear will be leaving for Wakefield after the current season and the Batley Bulldogs progressed to the next round of the Challenge Cup in a high scoring affair by virtue of a drop goal by Dom Brambani, as opponents Whitehaven proved the expected difficult opponent and refused to go away. Converted tries by Alex Brown, Davey, Rowe (2), Reittie and Chandler put Batley in the driving seat to lead 36 – 24, but Whitehaven struck back to level the scores at 36 – 36, before Brambani stepped up and slotted over the drop goal to break Cumbrian hearts.

Batley now go into the fifth round draw, where first Super League sides are introduced and could prove stiff opposition.
